My First Take On A Homemade Acai Bowl

This ACAI BOWL is vegan, dairy free, gluten free, Paleo and let me tell you it’s the best plant based dessert that I have tasted ever!

Imagine having an acai bowl on the table for breakfast? I mean I couldn’t until today. Fortunately I am always very open to trying new things and am hell bent on eating healthier. Every day, one day at a time I am making more and more healthier choices.  My motto really is be healthier today than you were yesterday.

MY FIRST HOME ACAI BOWL

I know it might be hard for you to believe that this was my first taste of an acai bowl but it was and I’m okay with that really 🙂 I literally thought I was having a kind of healthy grown up version of a milk shake just healthier. It’s crazy good.

HEALTHY FAMILY HABITS

Fortunately my daughter is a health nut about what she eats because she works out so hard so eating healthy comes naturally. Its also wonderful for me because there is always that inspiration of mom I want you to try you this or that so this is where I found myself today when our delivery arrived! Huge excitement about healthy food products being delivered, you would swear I was a child and part of me probably was when I opened up my box 🙂

Here’s what I learnt from this ACAI BOWL

Pronounced AH-C-E (I still can’t get my head around that but anyway moving on)

  • freeze all the bananas because they will be in most of my upcoming smoothies
  • acai berry powder is a power house on its own
  • bought as an organic acai berry powder of in the frozen section as pulp or even as a capsule
  • antioxidants antioxidants antioxidants
  • they taste very good
  • clean eating 
  • no sugars added or necessary
  • also helps prevent certain health issues
  • DELICIOUS! CREAMY! LUXURIOUS!

CONSISTENCY OF THE SMOOTHIE

If you are used to making these smoothies then you are probably used to the consistency being a lot thicker? Exactly! This definitely depends on the type of blender that you’re using. The more powerful the blender the thicker and more luxurious the smoothie consistency is.  If that’s not important to you and absolutely don’t mind the consistency being not so perfect then welcome 🙂 Although when I say not perfect I also simultaneously wonder what is and and as long as it’s your version of perfect that’s good enough!

WHAT IS ACAI?

As I mentioned earlier on that this was my first experience with this ACAI smoothie.  With like anything in my life that I  am going to be putting into my body I always make sure to read up as much as I can on it.  This was no different. Healthy or not. First hand information or not, I still need to see it for myself.  Tonight I spent reading up and finding some useful links on Google on the health benefits.

ACAI BERRIES are a Brazilian super food and are a large part of their diet. When I say they I mean more of the poor and indigenous Brazilians. If you want to know what it looks like then think of the shape of blueberries and grapes so anything between those two fruits is probably the closest idea.  The reason we get ACAI BERRIES in a powder and not in a fresh fruit is because they are difficult to grow outside of the Amazon and they are perishable so we get them in a powder form. I know that you also get it in the frozen food section of some stores in a the form of a pulp. I love this fruit

MY FIRST TAKE ON A HOMEMADE ACAI BOWL

Servings 2 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 Frozen bananas
  • 1/2 cup coconut water
  • 2 scoops Strawberry whey protein
  • 1 tbsp beetroot berry mix powder
  • 1 tbsp Acai berry powder
  • 1 tbsp Peanut butter

Instructions

  • Add all the ingredients into a blender and top with your favorite fruit, nuts, seeds, coconut flakes.
