Description
Easy Pressure Cooker Spare Ribs / Instant Pot Spare Ribs that are impressively fall-off the bone tender. Juicy ribs that are packed with flavor and ideal for the IP.
Ingredients
- 2 racks of spareribs or baby back ribs
- 1 cup water
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 2 to 3 drops liquid smoke (optional for smoky flavor)
Spice Rubs, Seasoning & Sauce
- 2 tsps Meat Spice Rub
- 1 tsp Paprika Dry Rub
- 1 tsp Salt & Pepper
- 1 cup braai sauce
Instructions
- Rinse the ribs, shake and pat dry on both sides.
- To remove the membrane do the following;Place the ribs meat side down on a cutting board and use a blunt table knife to get between the membrane and the ribs. Loosen it, pull the membrane away from you and discard. Do both the racks.
- Sprinkle a good amount of salt & pepper over the ribs followed by rubbing on all the spices, meat rub and paprika dry rub.
- Place the ribs into an oven tray and pour the braai sauce over the ribs making sure they are well covered. Don't wash the tray! We will use it to grill the ribs later.
- Add the liquid smoke to the water and pour it into the pressure cooker. Place the wire rack (if your pressure cooker came with one) into the bottom. Place the seasoned sauce coated ribs into the pressure cooker into a fold again the pot fashion so that they can fit and we don't have to cut them.Put the lid on and seal the pressure cooker.
- Set the pressure for 30 minutes (manual high). Halfway through the ribs being cooked make sure to heat the grill part of your oven.
- When the pressure cooker is finished allow the pressure to release naturally for about 15 minutes. Open the vent slowly so that the rest of the pressure can be released. They are ready to come out. Remove the spare ribs carefully as they will fall apart and you want them to still stay together for the sauce! Otherwise you have bones one side and meat one side.
- Place the cooked spare ribs into same baking tray we used earlier and pour some of the remaining sauce over the ribs. You can use the remaining sauce to serve as a dipping sauce. The amount of the sauce you use to coat them before they go into the oven is up to you.
- Grill the ribs for about 2 to 4 minutes but watch them very carefully because the sauce will burn so quick! You may even need just 2 to 3 minutes, just watch them.
Notes
These rib racks were both under 2kg each and the reason I went with smaller ones is not only the convenience of them fitting into the pressure cooker but also meat is usually more tender.
This amount should feed about 3 to 4 people so double for a larger serving just bear in mind that you may need to place them over each other in the cooker, use an extra rack or simply place them in circles as I've done and repeat for other racks. You can also just cut them, point is there are other options of fitting them in the cooker so don't stress!
