This is the miracle easy braai sauce and when you taste it you'll become highly motivated to make it often and use it in so many different ways. It's incredibly tasty making everything you add it to taste even better!

    easy braai sauce

    Easy Braai Sauce

Great for basting or as a topping for meat, try it on these recipes Chicken Wings and Pressure Cooker Spare Ribs.

If you understand the power of how to use sauces in the kitchen then you will love this braai sauce no less than this Mascarpone Cheese Dip or this basil pesto.

It goes well with meat before cooking, serving as a dip for meat dishes, salad, chicken, quite frankly whatever you want to pair it with.

This recipe took 5 minutes to get all the ingredients into the pot and then about 15 minutes to simmer and it tasted off the charts good.

Don't be overwhelmed about the number of ingredients just get them in the saucepan the results will speak for themselves.

    Braai Sauce Ingredients

Tomato sauce (Ketchup) Use any one.

Tomato paste - I can't make a braai sauce without the depth that a tomato paste adds.

Apple Cider vinegar - that's for that tangy flavor that you want in a braai sauce. You can add fresh lemon or white vinegar.

Herbs, spices and seasoning for that all natural flavorful & fragrant finish. You can add spices like paprika, mustard, cloves, cinnamon, cumin, thyme and garlic powder. We use these natural herbs and spices. The full list is in the recipe card below.

Molasses Gives a thickness to the consistency and depth to the taste.

    What Is Molasses?

Molasses is a thick dark syrup which comes from the processing of sugar cane.

    Molasses Substitute

If you don't have molasses you can use regular golden syrup. Though not the same it's still thicker and more affordable than maple syrup for this braai sauce.

Worcestershire sauce - if you're South African you don't need a reason to add Worcestershire sauce right? Besides, it brings a nice savory flavor to the sauce.

Liquid smoke - you only need a few drops to bring out that smoky flavor. Don't have it? Leave it out, you will still enjoy a sweet, tangy and savory braai sauce.

    Honey -Any honey.

What is liquid smoke and why do we add it?

It's a liquid thats smokey and it's used to create that smoky taste without the meat actually being smoked and you've probably eaten it without even knowing. Liquid smoke is added to store bought meats, cheeses, sauces and so much more.

    Is Liquid Smoke A Condiment?

Liquid smoke is very concentrated so it's not like a Worcestershire sauce or a ketchup that you can take to the table and add to your food so no it's not a condiment.

    Ways To Use Liquid Smoke

Add it to your meat before cooking when you add your spices and seasoning. You can use it on any meat but because beef for example already has natural flavors liquid smoke is better with more bland meat like chicken.

    Liquid Smoke Subsitutions

Smokes salt, smoked spices like smoked paprika,

How To Make This Easy Braai Sauce

Did I say it's too easy for words? Well here we go!

    • Start here: Add all the ingredients into a large saucepan. Stir and bring the sauce to a boil. The minute it starts to boil, drop the heat to a low and decent simmer.
    • Simmer: Let it simmer for 12 to 15 minutes with the lid on because it splashes about but make sure the lid is on at a slanting angle. Simmer until you are happy with the thickness. Keep the lid off if you simmer is low without splashing about.
    • Serve: Enjoy with your favorite sides or main dish!
