Cooking Fluffy Quinoa

Miranda | My Anosmic Kitchen
How to cook fluffy quinoa each and every time. No longer mushy, bitter or stuck together, only perfectly light and fluffy.
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 25 minutes
Total Time 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 cup quinoa
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/4 tsp salt, to taste

Instructions

  • Rinse the quinoa in a fine mesh strainer.
  • Pour the quinoa into a pot/saucepan, add the water and bring it to the boil.
Once it begins to boil lower the heat to a simmer.
5 minutes later, lower the heat even more. Continue to simmer, no lid.
  • It will cook for about 10 to 15 minutes depending on your stove. Take a peek to check if the water is absorbed, take it off the heat and continue leaving it on the pot to steam for another 5 minutes with the lid on.
  • Remove the lid and fluff with a fork. Welcome to fluffy quinoa every time!

Notes

Rinsing the quinoa just for a couple of seconds helps alleviate any bitterness the quinoa may have, so do rinse it before cooking.
Use a fine mesh strainer to rinse or those tiny grains will go right through!
Bringing the saucepan or pot to a simmer, you can do without the lid, however I prefer to cover with the lid until it boils then remove the lid once the quinoa is on simmer.
Simmer without the lid, drop the simmer and leave it until the water has evaporated.
Cover and let it steam off the heat for 5 minutes.
Fluff with a fork and enjoy with salad or a simple drizzle of olive oil and seasoning.
