WELCOME to My Anosmic Kitchen
Hi there, I'm Miranda, an anosmic food blogger, and spice business owner writing to you from Cape Town, South Africa.
My Anosmic Kitchen is my special corner of the world. It's also where I create recipes and video's that are designed for anyone who wants to make food sing with flavour!
So cooking with layers, adding flavor, texture, color and making food look as good as it tastes is key since I move around my kitchen touching, tasting, sensing and not smelling.
So Why A Food Blog?
Maybe I wasn't born smelling roses (or anything for that matter!), but over time I've developed a love for creating a world of flavours in the kitchen. I'm anosmic, which means I have no sense of smell. Perhaps a superpower🙂
Totally unaware my entire life that my not smelling was called anosmia.
Since I had always loved cooking I started researching anosmia. That was when the idea of a food blog entered my mind.
There was a kind of doom and gloom over the face of anosmia and I saw words like "depression" "anger" and "despair".
Food was lifeless and colourless because it didn't matter.
All this made me more determined to share my recipes. It tells a story, and that is what My Anosmic Kitchen is about, my kitchen story, on every plate.

Slowly, I gathered information and started to write down my recipes.
I Began Sharing My Home Cooked Recipes
I loved my food and so did family and friends which was enough for me to continue educating myself.
Cooking was never new for me, it was what I grew up doing but I was learning to implement it in a new way.
In a way that allowed my anosmia to lead me, strange I know, since it's supposed to be my disability, it is indeed my strength.
I know that smell and taste are linked and that normally, if you can't smell then you can't taste, this is not the case here.
I have always been able to taste. Are we tasting different? Maybe I don't know, but I have never been questioned by those around me or been made aware that we taste differently.
How to Cook Without Smell
Forget smell😃 We have more than just one sense! And forget all the things said about what you can't do, focus on what you can do.
Recipes like this which have been shared countless times on Pinterest is a good example of flavor, layers, color and texture. My cooking style is about trying new things and creating flavors that speak to me.
Cooking has made me believe in myself in ways I didn’t think I needed. Educated me, celebrated my success and gave me vision in my failures.
It is never just about eating. Food is a means of survival to many, a celebration to some.
