Hi there, I'm Miranda!
I'm so glad you're here!
I'm the face behind My Anosmic Kitchen. I create simple, home-cooked recipes that turn eating at home into a delicious pleasure, not a chore—while helping you eat less processed food. I write my recipes, take photo's of them, have a spice blend line and a free recipe ebook!
I'm an anosmic food blogger and spice business owner, writing to you from Cape Town, South Africa.
My Anosmic Kitchen is my special corner of the world, where I create recipes designed to make food sing with flavor!
Cooking with layers—adding flavor, texture, color, and making food as beautiful as it tastes—is key for me. As I move around my kitchen, I touch, taste, and sense, but I don't smell.
So, Why A Food Blog?
Maybe I wasn’t born smelling roses (or anything at all!), but over time, I developed a love for creating a world of flavors in the kitchen. I'm anosmic, which means I have no sense of smell. Some might even call it a superpower! 🙂
I had no idea that what I was experiencing had a name—anosmia—until much later.
Since I’ve always loved cooking, I started researching anosmia, and that’s when the idea of starting a food blog hit me.
I found that many stories surrounding anosmia were filled with words like "depression," "anger," and "despair." People described food as lifeless and colorless, because without smell, it didn’t seem to matter.
This made me more determined than ever to share my recipes. My blog tells a story, and that’s what My Anosmic Kitchen is all about—my kitchen story, told on every plate.

I Began Sharing My Home-Cooked Recipes
I’ve always loved food, and so did my family and friends, which inspired me to keep learning and sharing.
Cooking wasn’t new to me—it’s something I grew up doing—but I was now learning to approach it in a new way.
In a way, my anosmia became my guide. It might sound strange, since anosmia is often seen as a disability, but I’ve come to realize it’s actually my strength.
I know that smell and taste are usually linked, and that without smell, you typically can’t taste. But for me, that’s not the case.
I’ve always been able to taste. Do we taste differently? Maybe, but I’ve never been questioned by those around me or made aware that my taste experience is any different.
How to Cook Without Smell
Forget smell😃 We have more than just one sense! And forget all the things said about what you can't do, focus on what you can do.
Cooking without smell is all about focusing on other senses—taste, touch, and sight. I rely on these to guide me. I pay close attention to texture, color, and the balance of flavors, using ingredients that complement each other. I also trust my instincts and experience, as well as feedback from others, to ensure the dish is on point. By layering flavors thoughtfully and being mindful of the cooking process, you can create delicious meals, even without the sense of smell
Examples of my recipes, shared countless times on Pinterest are a good example of flavor, layers, color and texture. My cooking style is about creating flavors that speak to me,
