I am in love again but this time with the BEST CHOCOLATE COFFEE SMOOTHIE! This creamy no banana almond butter coffee smoothie just might be the breakfast chocolate mousse that we all need.
This is the kind of smoothie that will make you rethink bacon and eggs for breakfast. It's also a great way pack in the nutritional goodness on those busy mornings.
We've been enjoying a variety of smoothies from berry, spinach and avocado.
This coffee smoothie was a must share! With an almost chocolate mousse like texture, the ingredients certainly play well together.
The serving for this recipe is for two people depending on the size of the glasses which could be 3-4 smaller servings.

Not today, because today I am sharing banana substitutes and how to make your smoothie taste like a million dollars!
Chocolate Coffee Smoothie Ingredients
Coffee: This recipe uses 2 shots of espresso for our kick of caffeine! For instant coffee, my suggestion is to make strong coffee.
Milk:ย Unsweetened almond milk is a good choice for smoothies but you can use any milk.ย
Protein Powder:ย We are using thisย Wazoogles Superfood Protein Blendย (Chocolate Moondust).ย This protein superfood is packed with nutrients, no refined sugars and preservatives and keeps you going, staying full and satisfied.ย
Almond Butter: It has a good amount of protein, is a good source of vitamins, healthy fats and adds a nice creaminess to the texture.
Chia seeds: Help reduce cholesterol and a great option to thicken your smoothie without banana.
Linseed (Flaxseed): In edibles, these are the same. When you think flaxseed, think omega-3 fatty acids and digestion.
Raw Honey: For a sweet touch about a teaspoon of raw honey. I would suggest adding after tasting the smoothie and then deciding.
Vanilla Extract: Wonderful addition but completely optional.
Note: Smoothies are only one way to use protein powders. You can do so much more like adding it to your pancake batter, ovenight oats and more!
Serving: If you are making this smoothie for one, you need one scoop of protein powder and less of everything else.
Healthy Coffee Smoothie
โAny coffee for a coffee smoothie.
Brewed coffee, leftover coffee, decaf coffee or cold coffee. We use espresso in this recipe but it's not a deal breaker.
If we were making say the Best Amaretto Affogato Recipe With Disaronno then yes, it would be a deal breaker because the entire recipe is based around Italian coffee.
Use leftover coffee to make iced coffee smoothie by freezing the coffee in an ice cube tray. Add these coffee ice cubes directly into the blender.
Variations For The Best Coffee Smoothie
Milk: This is always a big one because we all have different preferences or use dairy-free subsitutes.
Fortunately there are so many options out there to choose from, coconut milk, soy milk and oat milk. In this recipe, unsweetened almond milk is the milk of choice. For the vanilla almond milk variety, check for added sugar.
Chia seeds: Chia seeds are great to help thicken smoothies especially when you don't have any banana! Just watch the quantity because it's not free of calories.

What to Use Instead of Frozen Banana?
You can use frozen fruit like pineapple or mango. Now, I don't know about you but I barely ever have frozen mango lying around ๐ So the other great options that I use are half an avocado, or ยผ cup rolled oats or chia seeds.
PS: If you leave your smoothie in the fridge for a few hours and it has chia seeds in, you might want to get a teaspoon because it will now have set into a pudding consistency!
How to Make My Smoothie Taste Better?
โFlavor: By now, you know that we like to kick things up at myanosmickitchen so let's amp up the flavor for boring smoothies:)
I would suggest chocolate if you are not using this awesome chocolate moondust.
Chocolate: Dark chocolate pieces, unsweetened cocoa powder or cocoa nibs if your theme is a chocolate flavored smoothie.
Sugar: My preference for sweeteners is fruit as my first choice and apples in particular. They go well with baby spinach and cucumber. So fruit for natural sweetness and then coconut sugar, raw honey or maple syrup.
Fruit and vegetables: Both fresh and frozen are exceptionally good in smoothies. Wash everything when it comes to fruit and veg before adding it to the blender.
Spices: First turmeric for it's anti-inflammatory propeties. Then theres's cayenne pepper to wake the body up a bit. Ginger, cinnamon because it's not just for French toast (although so good!).
That's just to name a few but spices go a long way with flavor.
Nut Butters: Now here is where the magic really happens (for a treat) and not just in nut butters. You definitely have peanut butter in your kitchen? Use it if you're looking for a little something good in your smoothie.
Hemp seeds: This is something else I fell in love with years back and it has many benefits from digestion, fiber, antioxidants and more.
The idea is to get as creative with your smoothies as much as you can. A little salt here and sugar there is great but try colorful healthy options like beetroot powder, turmeric powder or turmeric paste.

How to Make Coffee Protein Smoothies
Step 1 - Add the unsweetened almond milk and coffee to a high-speed blender.
Step 2 - Now add the protein powder, chia seeds, almond butter, flaxseed and a little ice cubes to the blender.
Step 3: Blend everything until smooth. Stop, add the vanilla if using, one more mini second blend and done!
Step 4. Pour into glasses and enjoy immediately with a teaspoon of honey as per below๐or refrigerate for later.
Recipe Notes For Healthy Smoothie Recipes
Clean ingredients: The best way to get the most out of your smoothies in my opinion is to make sure that the ingredients are intentional. Yes delicious, but also intentional.
Healthy choices: Clean ingredients that will add value to your health. Opt for seasonal fruit and vegetables and don't be lazy or in a hurry to wash your fruit and vegetables! Just do it.
Make your smoothie thinner: f you need to thin out the consistency of your smoothie add a dash of water, milk or ice cubes.
To make it thicker? Leave it in the fridge for a couple of hours, it will turn into your favorite dessert (because of the chia seeds). You can increase the chia seeds but if it's calories you're counting, you're looking at about 70 calories per tablespoon of chia seeds.
Overall Consistency: If you dont have a high speed blender, the consistency of your smoothie may vary.

- 2 cups unsweetened almond milk
- 2 cups espresso shots (espresso cup sizes)
- 2 scoops chocolate moondust protein powder
- 2 tbsps chia seeds
- 2 tablespoons almond butter
- 1 tablespoon flaxseed
- ice cubes
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- ยผ cup ice water or as needed
- 2 tablespoons raw honey (for your prefernce so taste first)
Instructions
- Step 1ย - Add the unsweetened almond milk and coffee to a high-speed blender.2 cups unsweetened almond milk, 2 cups espresso shots (espresso cup sizes)
