Homemade Blueberry Jam

This homemade blueberry jam with a hint of warm spice is a refreshingly delicious and healthier choice than a store-bought jar. Using just 2 ingredients – I cannot believe that I don’t have a any jam recipe on my blog because I make all kinds of jam! This blueberry jam is so simple and like most homemade goodies once you start making your own, over time, it becomes more difficult to enjoy the store bought products.

Blueberry Jam

Can you believe how affordable blueberries are when they’re in season in comparison to when they are not in season? It’s crazy to pay such an exorbitant price tag when you know the seasonal costs and perks of buying seasonal. I’ve spoken in lengths about buying in season and why you should do the same in most of my recipes.

The most beautiful thing about making your own jam is that you can pretty much make jam of just about any fruit. The ones I love making are apple, figs (oh sweet figs!), all the berries – strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and marmalade.

Cook Time 10 minutes
Total Time 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 to 3 cups blueberries remove any stalks and very soft ones
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • pinch cinnamon
  • pinch cardamom spice
  • 1/4 cup berry juice

Instructions

  • Add all the ingredients into a saucepan, non stick.
  • Heat to medium and bring to a slow boil. Drop the heat low to medium and keep stirring at intervals. Simmer until you have the desired consistency. If you want it thinner add a little more water or juice. If you want it thicker add a Maizena mix – see Notes below for Maizena mix.
  • Store in a clean glass jar.

Notes

Maizena Mix (for thickening)
1 teaspoon Maizena
2 tablespoons water
Mix into a thin paste/liquid and pour into the berry sauce while stirring for desired consistency. Remember it thickens a little more after simmering.
