Pasta e Fagioli Ingredients
These ingredients are in the order that you add them into the recipe. Please watch the video to get a simple view of how to make pasta e fagioli in the IP.
Olive oil We are using this olive oil.
Beef You can use cubes (or cut into cubes yourself). Try and get meat that has an even ratio of meat to fat for a good cut of beef.
Onion Diced and here I use brown onion though I'm sure baby leeks or green onion would also work well.
Garlic It may seem a lot in the recipe card below but it depends on your taste and the size of the garlic cloves. Feel free to add less to you recipe.
Spices We use a range of spices in our kitchen including the pantry staples in this recipe. You can find our spices here.
Tomato ingredients, veggies and liquid are all added simultaneously with little to no stirring and definitely no waiting!
Cumin I finish this recipe off with a the much loved cumin spice also from our online shop. For an incredible aroma when you open the IP it's best to not stir the cumin spice in.
Parmesan cheese A slice of this Italian cheese melting into the pasta e fagioli is enough to wet the appetite! Finish with a sprig of fresh thyme, a slice of fresh lemon and fresh black pepper for that 'something extra'.

Set your Instant Pot to Sauté, and brown the meat in olive oil. Takes roughly 5 minutes to brown all round. Add the onions, cook for 2 to 3 minutes, add the garlic, spices and seasoning. It all goes so quick!
Combine and cook for 3 to 4 minutes while mixing with a wooden spoon intermittently. In the last minute add the tomato paste and let it cook in with the aromatics for a minute or so.
Add the tomatoes, carrots, water and stock, mix and add cumin spice (don't mix it in!) The aroma when you open the IP is incredible throughout the kitchen! Place the lid on, lock it in and turn the valve to SEAL.
Cancel the sauté setting and set the IP to HIGH PRESSURE for 8 minutes. When the 8 minutes is up, force pressure (quick release), wait for the pin (valve) to drop before it's safe to open the Instant Pot.
Remove the lid, add the ditalini pasta and beans, place the lid back on, valve to SEAL, set to High Pressure for 3 minutes. When the time is up, leave the IP to do a natural release for 2 minutes and force pressure for the remaining time. Once the pin (valve) has dropped, safely open the IP.
Garnish with fresh parsley, lemon wedges and Parmesan cheese.
