How Long to Cook Sausages in the Air Fryer
For thicker sausages (like thick boerewors) you're going to be air frying for around 9 to 12 minutes. For thinner sausage, probably 8-10 minutes.
How Long to Cook Lamb Chops in the Air Fryer
200℃/400F for 7 to 9 minutes flipping halfway. Type/thickness dependent.
What Temperature to Cook Sausages
190°C / 374°F is the easiest way to control the level of doness. Cooking sausages just became a lot quicker!
Air frying at a high temperature of 200C/400F can cause the sausage to dry out by even a minute. In this recipe, I cook the sausages for the last 3 to 5 minutes on an even higher temperature but it works because the fat from the chops helps keep them juicy and tender.
Types of Sausages
Beef, pork, chicken, lamb sausage, turkey, Italian sausage, breakfast sausages, German sausages, cocktail sausages and hot dogs.
Any type of sausage will work in this air fryer recipe even thin sausages, simply note the cook times for the thickness of the sausage.

How to Air Fry Sausage and Lamb Chops At the Same Time
Easy step-by-step photos for the most delicious sausages!
- Pat Dry: Pat dry and season room temperature meat on a plate or board.
- Heat the Air Fryer: Preheat the air fryer for 5 minutes. Let is run 5 minutes if you don’t have a preheat setting. This can be done just before you place the meat inside the air fryer basket. The idea is for the basket to be nice and hot.
- Season: Season the meat generously. In this recipe I used a salt and pepper blend, braai spice with a little extra virgin olive oil. Use a spice that can pack a flavor.

- Arrange the Meat: Arrange the meat in the air fryer. Place the sausage to one side and stand the lamb chops fat-side down around the sausage. As long as they are not piled over each other, they will all cook evenly.
- Air Fry/Cook: Cook the meat for 10 minutes and then turn the sausage. Flip the chops to the fat-side up. Crank the heat up to 205° C/401°F for golden brown meat results
Cook Time For Sausage and Lamb Chops in the Air Fryer
An average of 10 minutes air fryer cook time at a temperature of 190°C / 374°F.
Recipe Notes
- The suggested safe to eat internal temperature of the sausage (cooked sausage) is 71°C (160°F). The internal temperature for lamb chops is 63°C /145 degrees F - medium-well.
- Both these temperatures can be reached respectively in 10 minutes in the air fryer.
- Increasing the heat and cooking for an additional 3 to 5 minutes gives you the extra brown on the chops. Chops with some color in them are much more appetizing than pale chops!
How to Read the Internal Temperature with a Meat Thermometer
The best way is to not wait for the meat to come off the stove (or airfryer) to insert the thermometer. Do this while the meat is still cooking.
Insert the thermometer into the thickest part of the meat (avoiding the bone). Insert it all the way until it shows up on the other side. Then, reel it back in until it gets to the center of the meat. That's the reading to use.
Keep in mind that the temperature will continue to rise by about 5 degrees while it rests.
You can also, cut halfway into the thickest part of the meat and check the color of the meat juices. Red, not cooked, clear meaty juices, cooked. Slight red juices, medium-rare,it will continue cooking while resting.
Using a meat thermometer prevents overcooked, dry meat and also guarantees safety preventing foodborne illness.
Tips For Air Frying Chops and Sausage (Together Successfully!)
- Consider the size of the sausages and chops when buying so that they can fit in a single layer.
- It will be a snug fit yes, but they still cook perfectly. If your sausage is thinner, it will need less cook time.
- Removing the sausages from the air fryer after 10 minutes is optional because they will be cooked through at this time but leaving them with the chops for the remaining time will give them a more browned and cooked texture. Check and decide if you want to pull them out.
- I prefer leaving them to cook finish with the chops, they are still juicy and full of flavor with just enough bite.

Recipe Inspiration
It was a weekday and I was too exhausted to cook yet hungry but needed the food yesterday! Waiting at the stove for anything to cook was not an option. I was thinking about making real spaghetti carbonara with the guanciale just for the fat on the meat. Just as the body craves sweet or savory, it craves fat too. If you can relate, this is the recipe for you. As quick as carbonara is, this sausage and lamb recipe is even quicker!
