Why Make Air Fryer Roasted Tomatoes?
Here are 3 Good Reasons Why Roasted Tomatoes Are The Best!
- Because these tiny tomatoes are bursting with flavor that's intensified when roasted and you simply cannot resist the umami flavor!
- The tomato skin becomes softer and begin to collapse, they get sweeter while they roast and in some way, they seem to prevent any drying out and caramalize instead. Makes sense?
- Roasted cherry tomatoes are a great way to enhance salads, top over bruschetta, and any dishes really. These air-fried tomatoes add a crunch and depth in flavor to your food.
What Containers Can Go In The Air Fryer?
I use all my oven safe dishes in the air fryer, as long they can fit. If they can handle the heat of the oven, they most likely can work. Ceramic ovenproof dishes, glass (like Pyrex dishes) and silicone.
How To Make Air Fryer Tomatoes
Let's start with the Ingredients For Cooking Tomatoes
Cherry tomatoes: They cook quicker so just increase the cooking time if you are using larger tomatoes.
Extra Virgin Olive oil: To keep them from drying out and to add flavor to the tomatoes. We use this extra virgin olive oil.
Salt & Pepper: Seasoning, we are keeping it simple with the basics of salt and pepper. We use this blend of fresh black pepper and sea salt.
Fresh Basil: Use your favorite fresh herbs but fresh basil and tomatoes are made for each other.
Tip!
I like adding chopped parsley in with the seasoning and olive oil. The oil will protect the herb from burning and it flavors the tomatoes and the remaining juices! When not using a dish in the microwave, lift the rack and pour the juices out.
Step-By-Step Instructions
This recipe is completey hassle-free, thanks to the efficiency of the air fryer!
Preheat: Set the air fryer to 400 degrees F / 200 degrees C. If you don't have a preheat setting, let the air fryer run while you do your prep.
Season: Add the tomatoes into a bowl and add salt, pepper and olive oil. Give the bowl a shake to mix or use your hands to mix.
Air fry: Place the tomatoes in the air fryer basket or air fryer rack in a single layer. The air fryer racks usually come with a tray, use that tray underneath to collect the juices. In a basket type air fryer, you can use a dish as mentioned above or parchment paper. You can also add them directly into the air fryer basket!
Is parchment paper or foil not better for easier clean up? Mmmm, yes and no. Air fryers are not that difficult to clean and sometimes the foil tends to block off the air from the bottom.
Air fry for 10 minutes or until the cherry tomatoes have collapsed, skins falling, juicy, maybe slightly charred, perfect!
Remove from the air fryer and transfer onto a plate. Dress with sea salt and fresh basil leaves.
