Ingredients Breakdown For Air Fryer Tortilla Wraps
- Smoky chorizo and beans recipe: This recipe has delicious chorizo that is super savory and chili-style beans. It’s sweet, a little acidic, and packed with umami flavor that will make your mouth water and make it irresistible.
- This recipe is perfect for tortilla wraps, especially with cheddar cheese, mayonnaise, and sour cream. You can also try variations like pizza rolls by adding pizza sauce or marinara sauce.
- Flour tortilla wraps: The flour tortillas are the perfect vehicle to enjoy the chorizo and bean filling without overpowering their flavor. You can also use corn tortillas if you prefer a gluten-free option.
- Cheddar cheese: Cheddar cheese adds sharpness to the wrap, cutting through the richness of chorizo and beans and the tanginess of mayonnaise and sour cream. You can even add mozzarella cheese or vegan cheese if you prefer.
- Salt and pepper: With all ingredients in the wraps, salt and pepper balance out the seasoning. Add garlic powder and Italian seasoning for more depth.
- Melted butter: Brushing melted butter over the tortilla wraps for air frying will make them crispy and nicely toasted. We just love how it makes your kitchen smell heavenly, and it gives the wraps an additional buttery flavor that teases the tongue upon every bite.
Sauce Variations
- Yogurt: Yogurt is a creamy and neutral-tasting addition to the wrap. It is not just creamy but helps balance the richness of the beans and chorizo.
- Mayonnaise: If you like creamy wraps, then mayonnaise is a big yes in these tortilla wraps. It elevates the flavor and adds a creamy texture, too.
- Sour cream: Sour cream is yet another great option for tortilla wraps. It is often used in wraps and tacos—it’s creamy, tangy, and super traditional.
- Cream cheese: We all love cream cheese. It is super cheesy and delicious. If you are a cheese lover, you must try it.
Expert Tips
- Use fresh tortillas: We highly recommend fresh tortillas for the wraps, but if you have frozen ones, you can use them as well. Don't try to use half-frozen tortillas; make sure that they are properly thawed or they will break and be unpleasant.

- Warm the tortillas ahead: Before making the wraps, it is important to heat them so they won’t break. The easiest way to do so is by covering them in a clean kitchen towel and heating them in a microwave for 30 seconds. This will make the tortillas soft and easy to wrap without any hassle.
- Always preheat the air fryer: Preheating the air fryer will help you cook the wraps quickly and ensure they become golden brown. Another reason for preheating is to crisp up the tortilla wraps without drying out the filling. You must keep everything inside the wrap juicy and moist with that perfect crispy exterior.
- Make Ahead: This recipe is perfect for making ahead. You can prepare the wraps a few hours in advance and store them in an airtight container by wrapping them in parchment paper. Before serving, just remove the wrapping, brush with melted butter, and air fry until crispy.
Substitution Ideas and Additions
- Chorizo and bean substitute: You can use store-bought chili for the recipe, but nothing beats our slow cooked chorizo and beans. You can also get creative with adding Italian sausage, and plant-based protein (tofu) to the mix.
- Add fresh lettuce: Fresh shredded lettuce adds a delicious crunch and freshness to the smoked, savory chorizo beans.
- Add fresh onion or tomatoes: Fresh red onions and tomatoes enhance the flavor with sweetness and a juicy snap.
- Add avocado sauce, guacamole, or smashed avocado: Avocado oil or smashed avocado gives a spin to the spread in the tortilla.
- Add pickled vegetables or jalapeños: This spicy and tangy addition makes the wrap delicious. Pickled vegetables add crunch, and jalapeños give it a kick of heat.
- Pizza-style wrap: You can make a pizza-style wrap by adding pizza sauce, pepperoni, and mozzarella cheese for a unique twist.
How to Store Air Fryer Tortilla Wraps?
If you have leftovers, wrap them in parchment paper or foil, then refrigerate them for up to a day. To reheat, just place them in the preheated air fryer for a few minutes.
You can also store the ingredients separately in an airtight container in the refrigerator for a day or two.
If you want to freeze the wraps, wrap them well in parchment paper and tin foil to avoid freeze-drying them. You can then thaw and air fry them for 10 to 12 minutes when ready.
